I like the texture change. The darker color for the grout blends better in my opinion.

On the flip side I think Shy Guy is awesome. Brings up nostalgia for me. I remember being a young boy and playing on my NES far too much. Your art is a good representation of him and I would consider it a successful start in pixel art.
