Done.

Yes

PS: Anyone know how to disable map generation in singleplayer?

There is some setting is minetest.conf for this. Soko said it's mg_name = singlenode, but for me it didn't work...

I did it!
1. Create new world in singleplayer mode, mapgen:singlenode, game:minetest.
2. Copy map.sqlite from your world and paste it in world-folder from point 1.
3. Play using world from point 1.

You will see only stored chunks, new generated chunks will be empty.

It also requires the right set of mods for the downloaded world. New versions of minetest_game have diffrent textures and slightly diffrent behaviour. That changes the buildings slightly. I'm not yet satisfied with the mods I use for the saved world.

Can we just use version 0.4.4 dev, like this on server? http://imgur.com/3GQ6TzC
Maybe using same seed will generate the same world as this on server?

Edit: Of course we need mods too.

0.4.4 dev of minetest_game would be a very good for the basic mods in minetest_game since it would be roughly the same version as that on the server.

Do not expect too much from seed. The server ran for a long time and experienced some mapgen changes in the meantime. Again, it may help if you use the same server version as that on Redcrabs server - at least for relatively new areas. A huge problem is dirt floating in from not-saved underground nodes.

The seed will work, because Mapgen v6 did not change

Ah, thanks! Do you by any chance know if the map used mapgen v6 all the time? I don't know which version of MT it started with. Seems to have been april 2012 according to thread start.

The map-saving client doesn't want to work with my computer. Can somebody please save all the structures on my tourism travelnet (there's less than ten of them)?

I also have an storage area that I want saved, but I'll digress for now and post those coords later since they're not on a travelnet.

That is the expiry date for the domain, isn't it?
If so people could just use the IP instead of redcrab.suret.net

What will be done with the chunks of the map that were saved? Will they be uploaded as a downloadable map? Might as well give them a use.

How are the spaceships in the map reached, the ones near the blimp? I've been wandering around for ages trying to find an elevator :(

Elevator is in this castle: -790,x,-1000
(spaceships are 1000 blocks above spawn)

My version of the map has reached 127 mb. That's already compressed and in leveldb format. The standard sqlite3 format would be slightly larger.

Perhaps we ought to consider making some parts of the map available for download (just: where?). I'm thinking about huge objects like Wyverns angel statue plus sourrounding area and Smokis huge not-deathstar in particular. Both are so gigantic that seeing them ingame in full takes a lot of time and usually fails. If the chunks where loaded, the not-deathstar would be visible from spawn. That huge structure by Topywo, the water pyramid, the eiffel tower and some castles may count as well. AspireMints buildings are large and cover a lot of area, yet exploring them is possible, and since they're very detailed, they work on the smaller scale the slow chunk loading permits. Still, seeing the aircraft carrier in full has something :-)

Exploring the map also showed me where most of the towns are. An updated overview map with short descriptions of the locations and perhaps links to some small screenshots might help players to find their way around better. The travelnet reduces time, but you loose the idea where you are. The map can help there.

May be a little late in reporting this but one of my homes got griefed. I'm not sure when it happened or who did it but it's probably the same person who put a protection over it, not allowing me to replace the furniture they stole.

I recommend you keep +/- 6000 by pasting to a world edit file.

Remake game, place player files, auth, and edit seed to match current seed. paste worldedit files in.

Those that build over +/- obviously do not want their creations to be seen, so... good riddance.

Not true at all. Being so quick to dismiss the creations of others we may as well lump you in with the griefers.

There's a number of purposes for building far away, not least of which is to have room to expand a large project without someone else coming in too close with their own structures and ruining your plans. And what would be the point of making a an ancient-ruins like area within easy access, kinda spoils the whole "lost history" feel.

Ruins on a server do not really work. You'd never know if it was the mapgen bug, an unfinished building, a building hit by a griefer, or just a very unskilled builder.

Even +/- 6000 would imply a very large amount of space. What I saved of the map is mostly supferficial. Where structures or sneak elevators where visible, I tried to use them, but that may not cover everything.

Updated 2d map (with Erthomes area and some more parts in the north): here.

Help! There's a greifer online right now. He's killing everyone, stealing travelnets and ruining coffeecrafters racetrack.

What shall I do!
