MAP UPDATE:
Image
CHANGES:
20151009--Changed some things:
Tweaked armour and tools to be a bit tougher.
Changed spawn command, now you must wait till timer is finished before you can use it--this makes things more strategic, use wisely.
removed voting box.
Added Technics --heavily tweaked as a stand alone mod without dependencies of pipeworks and mesecons.---in this mod I removed the griefing tools, err I mean mining tools until they work with protection. There were broken machines that had to be fixed manually, I didn't make notes. oops.
Updated basic_machines, a few times as rnd tweaks it.
removed afk kick, I believe it slowed the server down.
Added world edge mod, now world limit is 2200 in x and z directions. mainly to keep map size down.
Changed the behaviour of mobs, they are more aggressive the deeper you go, so be careful!

ADDED-- some buildings from the Just Test server using world edit.

I hope the server is running smoother now.

What is funny on this map is some pieces are missing, like my classic house is absent, while sand beach near it is present o.O

UPDATED basic_machines:

-readded accidently deleted recycler recipe
-major mover rewrite: gui update, in inventory mode mover can now move items between inventories of 2 nodes directly (for example from technic grinder into technic alloy furnace). available inventories can be selected from dropdown lists.

@tomlukeywood You need to use Minetest Mapper, or similar:
viewtopic.php?f=14&t=6920
viewtopic.php?f=14&t=8730
viewtopic.php?f=14&t=12139

(Never actually used it, so I don't really know if this are the right threads to point out)

Quick view of the city as it grows:

There is quite the infrastructure in place now, subways, railways, and roadways that you can travel quite far. :-)

Special thanks to all the builders on the server for making it a pretty interesting place to explore!

I play on this server sometimes and got around to digging a vertical water-elevator mineshaft some weeks ago, then took a break from extreme survival and left it alone for quite a while. Then later I come back again and it's griefed up--not too bad, so I'm not that worried about it. I reach the bottom and continue digging my mineshaft, but then I encounter a slight problem. There's no flowing water around me. (I've already checked and there was no torch under the water above me, so it couldn't be that.) At first I thought it was just lag, but as time went on the water still didn't come. There isn't usually a problem with that on this server. I wonder why it was doing that? Is it a bug?

Maiki, I was wondering what do you use to play MineTest on a kindle or Ipod? IK you tested it on there... Did you download it from the site or get an app that can be used for MineTest? I'm having problems with mine again, and didnt think you could actually download it from the site for an ipod, but maybe? lol

Thanks,
Asia

Yes, at the appstore android download minetest or freeminer. https://play.google.com/store/search?q=minetest

Minetest:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.minetest.minetest

Freeminer:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.freeminer.freeminermt

if those don't work try this:
http://download.cnet.com/Minetest/3000-2099_4-76335140.html

this you will put on your android.

Maikerumine,

I saw that you put my and Baggins's shops in their proper places. Thanks, but I noticed that both were outdated. I don't think that's a problem, since you can't always be updating them, so I'll let that slide.

I also noticed, however, that the rinkydink house I made from cobblestone on this server was more decorated than I had remembered. I don't seem to recall putting the glass and brick in my protected area. Was that you, or did someone hack my account?

Hmmm.... so it is a "can dig" function.

Strange thing is this just cropped up and I didn't change anything in spawn_sanitizer or protector when the first errors occurred.

But we see this:
Runtime error from mod '' in callback item_OnPlace()

Hmmm what does this mean? let's dig, shall we...

bingo!
I needed to mirror protection checks on both the protector mod and the coreprotectmod, with these lines here:
if itemstack:get_name() == "protector:protect"
or itemstack:get_name() == "protector:protect2"

Your phone or window isn't wide enough to display the code box. If it's a phone, try rotating it to landscape mode.
Code: Select all
-- Make sure protection block doesn't overlap another coreprotector's area

coreprotector.old_node_place = minetest.item_place

function minetest.item_place(itemstack, placer, pointed_thing)

   if itemstack:get_name() == "protector:protect"
   or itemstack:get_name() == "protector:protect2"
   or itemstack:get_name() == "coreprotector:protect"
   or itemstack:get_name() == "coreprotector:protect2" then
      local user = placer:get_player_name()
      if not coreprotector.can_dig(coreprotector.radius * 2, pointed_thing.above, user, true, 3) then
         minetest.chat_send_player(user,
         "Overlaps into another protected area")
         return coreprotector.old_node_place(itemstack, placer, pointed_thing.above)
      end
   end

   return coreprotector.old_node_place(itemstack, placer, pointed_thing)
end

Furthermore:

I am an idiot and cannot program therefore, most of the server crashes come from a wild idea in my head and I act on it.

:-)

I'm amazed that I haven't been on here in so long! My latest minetest accomplishment was mining by hand (well, as close as you can get in a computer game) a circle 30 blocks in diameter. It took forever but it's pretty cool.

Isn't "nice bad" a contradiction in itshelf? Guess you mean the "friendly" mobs that attack other hostile mobs and help you against them - unless you accidently hit the friendly mobs due to lag. They sometimes even tend to get confused amongst each other and attack other friendly mobs. But in general it works quite well and is nice to see. Maybe they could be "tamed" by building places for them to live in (bed, furnace, chest, door, roof...).

SERVER DOWN?

I guess something odd happened, it keeps restarting and crashing. I won't be able to check it until later. FYI if you want to try a similar game, I have another server up called ESM CHAOS.

several ideas how to prevent protector spamming at spawn:

1. upon placing protector count nearby protectors and determine the price requirement to place it
2. price is directly related to distance from spawn (very easy and cheap to make as mod)
