Hello

I've started getting errors when trying to connect to the server on port 30000 -- it connects, loads item definitions, media, and nodes - but crashes my client when trying to load a water source node... I'm using the latest client from the ubuntu wily ppa

I logged a bug at the minetest github but they're saying it's a mod/server issue - so I can't really do anything with that for further reporting. Is anyone else having this issue?

Your phone or window isn't wide enough to display the code box. If it's a phone, try rotating it to landscape mode.

Thank you for your feedback! This will help me find the bug. If I remember it may be one of the mods, I shall fix.

Maiki - Contact rnd. His basic_machines mod caused this same problem for my client. He fixed it.

No need, it isn't a mod, it is client based problem.
His machines never gave me the error so it must be those dodgy Linux builds. ;-)

Furthermore, I took the time to "update the server" with 4.14. Performance is less and MUCH more max lag now.

I am so tired of patching things to make work better. I would be surprised if asia could log into esm now.

Thanks to your hard work I am back in.. though I get connection timeouts now...... (as expected from your caveats...)

......... I'll let you duke it out with the devs on that one :-P

How much processing/memory do you need to allocate to run this server btw?

Dunno if you can roll back, but if I'm the only one experiencing this and it's degrading the experience for everyone I might not be worth it.....

Server seems terrible with lag, I am pulling the plug until things get worked out. Sorry for the inconvenience.

It looks like mod problem, be sure to update mobs, there were pathfinding improvements iirc, try mod profiling, see what is causing the high max_lag, check debug.txt.

The problem, as rnd told me, had to do with something that the 0.4.12 clients couldn't do that the 0.4.13 clients can do. Since my server needs to remain compatible with 0.4.12 clients, rnd had to undo whatever it was that caused 0.4.12 clients to crash.

Take what I just wrote with a grain of salt. I think my 0.4.13 client was crashing also. It still has the 'death on login bug'.

Also, I am about to recompile my server and client.

Side note: One day I am going to find out where the phrase: "Taken with a grain of salt" comes from. One day.
:)

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, you are clear to land on runway 27 right, contact tower on 119.8, g'day

12th and hopefully final test....
It appears my nvidea driver update to latest MAY have caused the lockups.
we are talking about full 16gb pegged memory leak, 0% CPU usage - essentially a sleep active mode.
Some files were corrupted during the week of this crap, thus some things like map and user data may be in error.
If you lost work I would reimburse.

During this time I did some mob updates and added MC like mobs, will post later, these are all compatable with mobs redo api.

I am disgusted with this computer performance and hope it disappears forever.

Tested different versions of MT
Tested different screen lock timer settings.
Tested different resolution settings.
Tested different mods.
Tested different conf settings.
Tested auto restart settings.

All have yielded this same crash lockup after 4-8 hours of idle time, whereas, this never happened before under all the exact same conditions and variables.

GODSPEED ESM

I believe the server is to be fixed, combination of different MT build and different operating system.
This is the longest ESM has been online without major lag.

ISP changed our ip again to : 23.28.87.79.

Sorry for all the downtime. We were up north in the woods.

hey since it's happened often maybe you could use a freedns server.

I recommend freedns.afraid.org

you could register something like xtrmsurvivalminetest.moooo.com

or something shorter if you want.

and they provide several methods for automating the update of the IP.

That was the ruins mod. unfortunately the mapblocks are bugged near there and sss property, due to the raw stone and grass. The mod thinks it should place them there. Mod has been removed.

Server down for testing.

Map corruption is causing odd ruins to form on RND's land and others.
Image

z: -32 to -48 all across the map seem to be broken, therefore if you place any stone, desert stone, dirt with grass, etc, the map might think it is not there and auto place farming foods, and ruins. I removed ruins already.

Sorry about this folks! at least you get free beds and cobble. Be weary, some protectors were deleted in mapgen placement of these things.

I have a suggestion; can you add advanced items like water transportation tubes to the server? It would really spice the world up.

Hmm, perhaps that is a bad idea. But there are a lot of things to do with water, like building your own canals for boat transport. The current method of transporting water to a desired location is tedious... buckets...

If maikerumine added this, he would have to reduce the max number of players.

maike, what's happened to autocrafter and grinder? They are vanished from crafting guide and both have "unknown node" texture on them

AndDT wrote:maike, what's happened to autocrafter and grinder? They are vanished from crafting guide and both have "unknown node" texture on them

TL;DR: they were most likely removed.
if something has the unknown texture they either have no texture specified or they do not exist. seeing as maikerumine is de-lagging the server, it is probable that he (or she :3) decided to remove them for the sake of less ABMs. In case you don't know what an ABM is, it's short for an Active Block Modifier, which is checked by the server every specified interval, and they add lag. Lots and lots of lag.

But these nodes weren't completely removed. Right clicking them still works.
