It's a joke started by celeron55 - if a block has a name like that, it means you're not supposed to actually use it for anything, because some other block either is the correct one to use instead (such as an "off" version of some "on" block), or because it has no useful purpose (such as air, in the original joke).

How do you craft light grey lightstone? The mesecons website has nothing on this.

For the light grey lightstone (just called "grey"), use three cobblestone, one regular torch, and one mesecon wire:

Also, other lightstones' recipes, for reference until they're added to the website:

It would be cool if mesecons could be in the default game.

Ancien, mesecons requires Minetest 0.4.2-rc-1.

My image and media server is back online and is functioning as normal.

There is a problem with long mesecon wires... If the wire is really long, disonnecting it sometimes kind of "disconnects" both parts (meaning that wire "hangs" at some place in the 0 state, even if mesecon next to it is 1) and it causes major problems when e. g. connecting distant receptors to one "effector panel".

EDIT: There is also a problem sometimes with something growing right in the middle of the wire.

That's the wire going out of chunk loading distance. You can fix this by either increasing the limit or having more players join to keep certain chunks active.

Or alternatively, make it smaller. Not really a feasible solution for mesecon telegraph lines, but possible if you're building a machine.

Couldn't find this anywhere, how do you increase the chunk limit, Temperest. I'm making an ALU and need all dem mesecons to stay active! (darn wraparound busses)
I have done NOTHING!

Probably something to do with the active_block_range, active_object_send_range_blocks, or viewing_range_nodes_min properties. I'm not sure which.

Well, active_block_range causes endless sky or just a few regions loading, but active_object_send_range_blocks works just right. Looks like setting this REALLY high could help me make my computer.
I have done NOTHING!

I get the same thing, sometimes the wire stays on although there is nothing powering it. Causes chaos trying to debug machines.

Set active_block_send_range to something high, it worked for me at least.

bug or...?
Trying the following in one of my machines
Image
Pressing the switch on D turns on B and C.
When the switch goes off, C on the chip turns off, but the wire seems to stay on. Can see the letter C is not lit up, but the wire and light remain powered. If i use a long wire, the problem remains until I break the wire (at any location).
Pressing the reset switch on A also fails to turn off the wire and light, as the output C isn't technically on according to the chip.
anyone got any ideas or work arounds?

Finally found the bug! You should win a prize for finding weird bugs!

I hope the fix doesn't cause new bugs, I tested it with all the mesecon machine competition circuits.

Sorry for being so curious... What are you building Fenris? Will you publish it?

Thanks for the fast reply and fix. If they gave prizes for finding weird bugs trust me I'd have a full trophy case. Would have tried to track it down in the code too but I dont really know lua 'yet' (I'm mostly a perl and python coder).
That was for my own tic tac toe machine, was looking at the screenshots in the competition thread and thought be fun to try and build one. New to minetest and mesecons so figured it would be good practice. Almost done the machine but the bug kinda stumped me, the wire with the bug was part of the toggle for who's turn it is.
As for publishing it, I hadn't thought about it really since there's already a tic tac toe machine from the competition, this is a world I'm building with my young (8 year old) daughter and I plan to include a number of different game machines so I'm sure I'll create something more original soon enough for publishing :)
On a side note, I've been looking for a while for a way of teaching my daughter the basics of programming and logic flow, keeping the young interested in learning at that age is.....tricky, but it seems I found it with this mod so THANK YOU!!!!
A player detecting hallway that seals itself off and gives you 15 seconds to enter a combination lock before the floor opens up to a lava pit seems to have done the trick in getting her interested in how it all works.

This caused enough lag to crash my pc :( Was this a bug or is it just the size of the mod?

When did it crash, on startup? Shouldn't actually be the mod, do you have debug output? Try disabling new style wires in mesecons/wires.lua
