Build #20160109-2311, switched to cheapie's fork of streets mod

EDIT: build #20160110-0123, hopefully fixed a screwup in the above change, also got rid of redundant infrastructure mod.

Build #20160111-0413, something went wrong with streets mod update. Updated again, including its submodules, and switched it back to a regular directory.

It seems that the infrastructure submodule no longer exists. It is merged into streets now.

Hiya,

Overall I really like this game, thank you for building/maintaining it.

First off: I'm using a really crappy old laptop with Lubuntu for a server for now. I'm aware this is less than ideal, but before I commit resources I need to know it's going to work for me.

I've noticed something odd: placed objects with a storage component (it seems) like the circular saw and beehives can't be removed unless empty, they just pop back. When empty it sometimes also takes several attempts to break them before they stop popping back.

Anyone else see this?

Another thing is; I noticed the remark this set needs 0.4.13. I can't seem to go above .11 on Ubuntu though, but when I run the game itself (0.4.13) as server and log a player in, it runs and I can connect from other boxes as usual. It does seem a lot heavier on the hardware though.

Any tips where to look to get .13 running appreciated. Mind you; I've tried a few things likev the dev repo's. No luck.

Any chance to see Christian Wischenbart's changes merged into the currency mod?

A very old low-end machine might not be ideal for a Dreambuilder game. It may work as long as you are using something better for the client. Dreambuilder adds a lot of very decorative nature nodes (amongst others) - and that demands a bit more on the hardware side than plain Minetest Game.

That's right. Nodes that store other things (also chests with content, furnaces etc.) usually cannot be digged if they are not empty. Else where ought the content go to? But if empty containers also pop back up and it takes several attempts for you to dig them, it might be a case of lag. Just dig the node once and wait for some time. It ought to vanish again. That's lag then. A faster server may help you here

I'm running Minetest 0.4.13 and the latest Dreambuilder (20160114-2006) with mapgen v7 on my Ubuntu server.

I have a problem with some areas that are extremely dark. It looks like it might be the clouds doing this, and I was wondering if anyone else was having the same issue? I'm also not sure if it's a Dreambuilder issue, or a mapgen v7, or Minetest 0.4.13.

It's an engine bug triggered by moretrees. Affects all mapgens except mgv6. Use the tool Onyx suggested, or disable the moretrees component of the game, or use mgv6.

[modpack] Dreambuilder [20160401-2304]

by VanessaE » Sat Apr 02, 2016 02:51

This subgame has been discontinued.

In its place, I have created dreambuilder_modpack, which, as the name suggests, installs like any other modpack. Pretty much all of the standard Dreambuilder content and features are still there, exactly as you all know it from the subgame. There may be a feature here or there that didn't get carried over, and where that's the case, I will endeavor to fix those things.

Since this is now a standard-form modpack, it depends on the upstream minetest_game distribution.

Please delete any copies of the old dreambuilder_game that you have floating around (or move them out of Minetest's reach anyway), you will not be using it anymore, and its old thumbnail (the brick house) will not appear in the main menu anymore.

To install, just copy the new modpack into your mods directory and enable it like any other modpack. Since this new modpack carries all of the mods that the subgame had, make sure you aren't trying to run any separate mods alongside it that are also included in the modpack.

For worlds that used the Dreambuilder subgame, open that world's "world.mt" file in a text editor, find the "gameid" line, and change it to "minetest" (all lowercase).

Furthermore, this modpack no longer uses git submodules like the subgame did, because they're evil.

Now the big question: Why did I make these changes? The short answer is that maintaining it as a subgame is too time-consuming, error-prone, and tiring. There are too many good things happening with minetest_game these days for me to keep up with, as far as pushing updates into the subgame's base code. A modpack is far easier, and still carries the majority of the features people surely want.

The URL for this modpack is now:
https://github.com/VanessaE/dreambuilder_modpack

This thread will continue to be used for modpack updates, discussion, etc., after being relocated to a more appropriate forum section.

Finally, in the process of this transition, I have updated a bunch of mods: castle, homedecor, bedrock, biome_lib, coloredwood, currency, display_blocks, gloopblocks, ilights, maptools, moreores, moreblocks, moretrees, nixie_tubes, pipeworks, prefab, quartz, signs_lib, spawn, technic, unifieddyes, vines, and worldedit.

Most of these are just changes in upstream URLs, mod.conf, screenshots (which I really should delete from the modpack), and similar updates; technic contains the most important stuff, with some smaller stuff in homedecor.

It was always a better idea to have Dreambuilder as a modpack anyway. Subgames rarely keep up with Minetest's development.

Hi VanessaE , I did a complete new install of minetest ( daily-dev) and added your modpack and started a new world. I notice that item pickups don't work. ( automatically picking up of items as you walk over it ) Was it removed or am I missing a config setting ?

Also , how do one disable the hostile mobs ? I used
Your phone or window isn't wide enough to display the code box. If it's a phone, try rotating it to landscape mode.
Code: Select all
friendly_mobs_only = true
in minetest.conf but hostile mobs still spawn.
I also tried:
Your phone or window isn't wide enough to display the code box. If it's a phone, try rotating it to landscape mode.
Code: Select all
spawn_hostile_mobs = false
spawn_friendly_mobs = true

But that doesn't work either

For the item pickups, this should work:

Your phone or window isn't wide enough to display the code box. If it's a phone, try rotating it to landscape mode.
Code: Select all
enable_item_drops = false
enable_item_pickup = true

For the MOBs, I believe your second try,

Your phone or window isn't wide enough to display the code box. If it's a phone, try rotating it to landscape mode.
Code: Select all
spawn_hostile_mobs = false
spawn_friendly_mobs = true

...was indeed correct. Why hostile MOBs are still spawning for you, I couldn't say (it's Calinou's code, best to ask him).

Thanx for the info VanessaE , RE the hostile mobs , I couldn't find the specific mod thread to ask , but I found this:
Your phone or window isn't wide enough to display the code box. If it's a phone, try rotating it to landscape mode.
Code: Select all
only_peaceful_mobs = true

from here: https://github.com/PilzAdam/mobs/wiki

And that seems to work. The link I got from the mod's readme file.

That's odd, because dreambuilder doesn't use that one, it uses carbone_mobs.

Anyway, build #20160511-0113, updated streets.

unifiedbricks & unifieddyes isn't showing up, and i don't know if there is anything else not showing at this point. There is 22 pages of items right now in Dreambuilder.

I don't know if this is any help, or if it is related but i am also getting:

I think i just got it. I don't think unifiedbricks & unifieddyes is supposed to show up when you have the colormachine installed. I think once you have colormachine installed they stop showing up in unified inventory and instead show up in colormachine...... Am i correct?

What about the other warnings in my previous post, are they related to the post before it?

You're correct about those two mods, yes. The same holds true for a few other mods as well (stainedglass comes to mind). With the exception of the "LIGHT_SOURCE" warning, just ignore them. Like I said, they're harmless.

The LIGHT_SOURCE warning tells me that your copy of minetest_game is outdated. You need to update to a development build of the engine and get a corresponding copy of minetest_game (0.4.13-release is too old).

The current `unified_inventory` codebase has no such code at that location. Maybe your copy needs an update?
