Forum and spam

Already reported plenty of times but the famous meh-ness there is always ruling...

Maybe if we decide to boycott the post reporting, the admins will react and take some smart measures if they don't want the forum submerged of spams.

As soon as someone posts an obvious advertisement their name should be banned from the forums and all previous posts removed...

It gets very annoying that these people do such a thing here especially when children are on the forum and being pointed to fake nike shoes, skin cream, body building protein powders and the like...

The following (easy to implement) features would pretty much clear up 90%:

1. Add a honeypot system
2. Add a decent captcha to the registration page
3. New members are not allowed to post links in the first post.

Many people have a solution but if c55 refuses to do anything, this is useless to input it.

Removal is not the solution. Prevention is. The forum administrators. Folks who could actually fix this. They must be pressured.

The spam is annoying. But we aren't paying for access to this forum. It's being provided to us for free by people who maintain it in their own free time. I hope they fix this soon as well, but, in the meantime, I'm just glad they are providing the forum.

It's not c55, it's thexyz. It's hosted on his machine. (celeron55 can ask xyz to do stuff, I guess.)

This was suggested a few years ago, but rejected as many big users post a mod as their first topic. For example PilzAdam.


You could just disallow users that mention keywords in their first posts, like "fifa", "fifa coins". As I've said before.

Are you saying it's morally wrong for the contributors to a forum, who make the forum something worthwhile, to expect a spam free environment?

Look, obviously the forum administrators are under no contractual obligation. They're not even under any moral obligation. They are however, subject to the dictates of logic.

If they want the forum to be a viable place for discussion and contribution, then they should put spam prevention mechanisms in place. What I meant by pressure is, as many people as believe this to be true, should strongly voice it.

nope, just saying that I understand they are busy and I appreciate the fact that they provide the forum.

Basically the prevention method only needs to be a once off input for new users. Bots will recreate new accounts everytime so members with more then one post shouldn't need to enter a spam protection code everytime they post. It can even be a simple email verification to activate your account.

If anyone is to manually spam from then on they could simply be banned the traditional way. Having said that its been over 3 years since i signed up so i can't remember if the minetest forum actually uses email verification to activate accounts.

The forum is now hosted by me and I added a modification that uses a bunch of automated IP block lists to get rid of spam. This should get rid of the unreasonable amount of spam, but it is too early to tell.
