You've done good work, Jordach. Minetest certainly needs more polished features like player animation.

I would say that I think the "resting" animations should be slowed down by at least a factor of two and the amount of movement should be reduced even further. Also, nobody swings their head from side to side while resting. If anything, their head tilts up and down very slightly in response to their breathing. I don't think the head needs a resting animation if it is tied to the view direction though. Players will generate plenty of semi-realistic movement by looking around.

I think that in a way Mojang have done better by keeping the play still, I really do not like the way the player moves when standing still on one block, there legs jolt fords and back words on the same block with out even walking

In my point of view, the actual animations are very poor, it's a big Minetest defect...

Not sure, his idle animation gives off a tiresome expression. He looks like he ran a marathan and is catching his breath. The cure to this is to slow the animation drastically.

Actually I think there was a big improvement already when the swinging angles were halved:

Maybe halve them again and see how it goes. Reducing the angle it needs to move will also make the movement slower without changing framerate. I think idle animations should be very faint. In minecraft you can barely notice them (btw, I think this one actually is looking already better than minecraft).

I actually like the "humping" so it makes it look like he's breathing.. but I do agree that it needs to me much more slight.

Also, maybe reduce the movement of the head more (or less) than what the thorax moves to get them slightly more detached. Try to use the head to compensate the movement of the thorax by making its effect less noticeable (making it less of a hump). This way it'll look a lot less like it has a stiff neck and maybe then you can reduce the lateral swings of the head.

For the walking animation, it would be much more realistic if the arms and legs could flex. Check out this animation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2aoa4Uo2S8g

But I guess that would require increasing the number of polygons so it won't be likely to be added to minetest_game...

We should have, imho, a version of the game for low specs hardware and another for modern hardware. Or allow texture packs to also change models and sprites (like replacing 2D torches with 3D meshes), then offer an official HD pack.

Wow, these animations look way better than minetest's current ones; when you release the model(Preferably with CC0), I may use them in my (WIP)subgame(Also not released yet).

Are you sure? I feel that the current animation is good enough. A full-blown elbow animation would look silly in Minetest.

Can player please get a neck for cryin out loud?? :D

The breathing animation drives me nuts too... luckily I never use F7 enough to have to look at it... but the constant bobbing can be annoying. Just my own opinion... (it looks like he has asthma), and before anyone jumps up offended, I have ailed from asthma my entire life so... thpltpltpltpltpltpltttt.... :P

BTW I am extremely jealous of your Blender skillz

I don't think that is a good idea in Minetest. The head one just may be, but the belly expanding would look weird and annoying in the voxel world.

ok. its just that when you stand up, you don't move your arms and head side to side, and lean forward and backward. but just standing there would be boring.

Maybe a more animated and active player animation can work!

Since the animation runs well, and don't make excessive lag, that's ok!
