I want to contribute to Minetest

by Daïmanu » Wed Feb 05, 2014 21:35

Hi everyone

I'd like to know what is the procedure to be a contributor of Minetest.
I am a C++ developer, so I can participate to the development of the core, or I can make documentation.
I would really appreciate to help this project to grow.

Thanks
Daïmanu

Talk to celeron55. Also, in the meantime, you can try your hand at mod making. some of the mods practically are standard, just aren't included in the primary engine. If you make a good one, it would be a major contribution. some examples of the simpler "standard" mods are: moreblocks, moreores and homedecor. these mods simply add extra nodes to help make your buildings more diverse. Some examples of the more complex ones for the more advanced players/servers are mesecons, pipeworks, and technic.

Hope you can make some good contributions, and welcome to minetest!!

Hi!

Welcome to the minetest forums!

It's great that to decided to start coding. Most core engine discussion is in #minetest-dev on IRC. Offtopic and general discussion is at #minetest.

Check it out sometimes! It's a good idea to keep communicating with the other devs about what you are planning to do =)

We hope you stay!

Thanks for replies and links.

So I can commit any update, celeron55 will accept or deny it right ?

@hoodedice I ever joined to #minetest-dev but apparently there are some permissions, I couldn't write anything.

Well it's time to take a look to the code :)

Not necessarily celeron55, but it will be merged if enough core devs are willing to merge it.

Waiting for c55 to reply is usually a waste of time. All the core devs have mostly equal rights to merge pull requests.

Webchat is muted in #minetest-dev due to too many spammers using webchat. Get a "real" IRC client to talk in the channel.

And as said earlier, any of the core devs can merge pull requests. Or, to be more precise, 2 core devs have to agree to a pull request to be merged.
