Here is the mangrove biome from my Australia MOD and soon to be launched 'Outback' subgame.

The roots for the mangrove trees will look better when water can "flow through" node boxes.

Gives good result for a lot of regions. But some of the hills can be very steep and long. If rivers appear there, it looks even weirder. I've been working on the mod and for the next release the textures for wood and trunks have been cleaned up. Also expect some new plants. But the real improvement will be with the trees. do that mod works alongside experimental MG?? No it doesn't. This mod relies heavily on the Biome API which mapgen v5, v7, fractal and valleys use. If there are features in that mapgen you would like added, let me know. Or if you want support for other mods that may or may not work properly, again ...

Thanks Duane, and for the code I reused from valleys_c ;) As far as a subgame goes, I was thinking of a wasteland-survival sceanrio based on central Australia. Remove all sea water, leaving only dry creekbeds or a muddy river that requires boiling of water. That's one idea, might let some others run...

I've been playing with this code and have created multiple mountains based on noise params.
But I can't figure out how to make it appear on top of an existing hill/mountain. It only works at y=1

I would suggest removing the HDX textures because this is a mapgen MOD, and textures are seperate. Create a new Github repo for textures and link to it in the README for those interested. Also, if new plants, trees and other nodes are added the mapgen repo will get very large if new 512bit textures ...
