How to create a map loosely based on real geo of Canada?

Hi All,

I would like to create a map that is loosely based on the real geographic features of Canada. Namely consisting of features such as the Western Mountains, Interior Plains, Canadian Shield, Great Lakes Basin and St, Lawrence Lowlands, Appalachian regions of eastern Canada and the arctic regions in the north. Can this be done? And how do I get started?

Thanks in advance!

ps. See attachment of basic physical regions of Canada

Hey, I'm Canadian too :D

Now, yes it's possible. As to how much work it would take to do, don't ask me. However, paramat might be able to give you some pointers on this as he does much of the MT mapgen dev. If you'd like, join IRC and ask him.

Again, it is possible, but it will either be as easy as providing MT with some type of map (not unlike the one above, but in a form understandable by MT), or it might have to be done manually which would be pretty, uh, interesting.

Anyways, hopefully that helps :D

Maybe you also want to see this mod as example: viewtopic.php?t=13370

Then, use data from some source about the heightmap and climate.

You also asked this in IRC and got some interesting tips: http://irc.minetest.net/minetest/2017-02-12#i_4809450
