[Game] LegendofMinetest [v2]

PostPosted: Sat Feb 13, 2016 00:31

This is my first attempt at a subgame.
The game is quite large(50-something mb).
It is is based on several games from the LoZ series.

New features in this subgame include:
>dashing
>mobs: deku babas, stalchids, dodongos, dodongo larvae, deku scrubs(passive and aggressive), gorons, zoras, fairies and more
>Bosses: Ganon, Bongo Bongo, Kind Dodongo, Volvagia. These mobs are very tough!
>swamps and lava biomes
>new tools, such as magic seeds, ocarinas, boomerangs and a master-sword(with sword-beams)
>new textures
>weather: rain, snow, storms and dust
>a better 3rd person view
>rupees, which can be obtained by killing mobs, breaking pots/rocks and mining. They can be used to buy items from shops which can be found in villages
>villages and dungeons
>3d models for some nodes such as chests or bombs
>shields and armour

Gameplay information:
In addition to the usual mining and building objectives of the game, there are now bosses and the triforce as objectives.
The triforce can be obtained either by mining mese, searching dungeons, or by defeating Ganon. Scattered throughout the dungeons are triforce shards, and magic pendants.
These pendants can be used to craft boss spawners. Once placed, the bosses will spawn after 5 seconds. Currently there are three minor bosses, spawned with blocks crafted with the three pendants.
These bosses drop the three stones required to obtain the mastersword, which will turn any boss spawner into a Ganon spawner when right clicked.
The bosses are tough so be prepared! Also, in an attempt to break away from the usual mining aspect, some materials can be traded with npc's.

More information:
>Some of the mobs will trade items for rupees. This is very useful if you don't like mining.
>Bosses won't spawn by themselves. You need to craft a special block which will spawn a particular boss when placed
>Any boss spawner can be turned into a Ganon spawner if you right click it with the master sword. Doing this will spawn a dungeon about 10 nodes wide and 10 nodes long. Do not do this somewhere where you have built something, unless you want to lose it.
>The crafting table given to players on starting a new world shows all the recipes.
>buckets can't be crafted in the usual manner, instead they must be crafted from 3 "poe souls", which are obtained by killing the ghosts which appear in dark places.

Next time I update the subgame I'll make a better texture.
I don't want to upload the whole thing again, so here is the texture from the other screenshot

You are a true artist! I really like your mod. The classic graphic style, inspired by The Legend of Zelda. Very good! I found the perfect mod for my server;)

In the mod, change the torches, I upgrade my texturepack and I insert the new brick (sandstone brick, and other standard blocks). Thanks to you, my friend :)

I had a look, it's a very nice texture pack, although the apples look somewhat out of place.
The tree textures are much better.
Also, I have updated the game again. I have removed some things to speed it up, most noticeably there is no longer Unified inventory. Apart from that it is a very big update, especially to the mapgen.
It's almost ready for version 1...

This game is very interesting. Maybe I am not experienced and advanced player, and did not seen evrything in minetesting, but it seems that this game is something fresh here. This is the first time when I meet all those beautiful, fun and kiddish mobs, for example that green, rounded balloon-like something, sundew-like flower monster or small X which leave some bubbly behind itself in the air. I am wondering what are those white divers inside water. They are not agressive, friendly mobs seems to ignore them, do not fight with them as they do with all monsters around and also those white underwater mobs do not take any rupees.

This is also a first time that I find the hyrule mods. I didn`t seen them yet or find any information about them. It seems that they play important role in this game. Can you tell about it something more? What are those triforce triangles, tunics, and other tools? What do the mapgen? What are those ice tools? And is there anybody who could explain to me how to get some water with bucket and what to do with all those hearts?

Oh, I just wanted to say that this game looks very nice and interesting. I hope that work with making those mods and a game itself is very enjoyable job, thanks a lot!

The monsters and animals are from the Legend of Zelda series of games.
Mostly Ocarina Of Time and A Link To The Past.
The "white divers" are zoras, they sometimes drop their scales which will help you swim.

The hyrule mods are just where I put a lot of the new game content. I found it easier than putting everything in the "default" mod. I will add an explanation in the first post. The hearts restore health when you use them, but they aren't eaten like food so they heal regardless of the hunger level. The icetools are just something I added for fun, they are a bit better than steel weapons. The ice wand can place a limited number of ice blocks. Seeds have magical effects, such as faster running, higher jumping etc. The ocarina's also have special effects, but they affect the world around the player. One summons a horse, one summons a deku scrub, one makes the weather stormy. The twilight crystal doesn't affect the game much, it just changes what the world looks like, and makes the master sword more powerful.

Thankyou and you're welcome. I had a lot of fun making this :)

Hello!
D00Med wrote:The monsters and animals are from the Legend of Zelda series of games.

Yea, my surprise come from that I never play and even didn`t know about existence of the Legend of Zelda series!
Now I briefly checked the Spanish wiki page about that (https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Legend_of_Zelda), which is the most informative page from all language pages at wiki site, and found (without speaking Spanish) that logotype, yellow triangle of triangles, rupee crystals and ocarinas are also concepts from that series. I do not know what is your general idea, but maybe in the future you will consider to add also some other creative concepts, not related to that Zelda games. No matter what direction of the further development of this game will be, I am going to follow updates and progress. This pack makes me fun. As I mentioned before, I didn`t know the Legend of Zelda series, didn`t know they they characters, and stuff, but this game made me to have minetest-fun with exploring some new tools and functions :)))) Perhaps that is (also with some visual additions among others), why this is so amazing to play this game. You start that game, find a craft guide inside a worktable and say "whoa", what are all those things there? Now all my minetest experience will tell me no clue and I need to discover how to use them... oh, that is great idea in gamemaking!

Your informations now explain why I have found some not related to local biome ice blocks in the doors to my base lol. I just started this game, and yes, have a fun with blue ocarina. Now I love making stormy weather. Maybe that is wired, but I have never use any wather mods in minetest. Rain with diminished lighting and visibility, and the most important, with it sounds, is amazing. You have good taste in selecting, modifying and building all those mods into a consistent and sensitive world. I want to say "more!" lol. And finally I would like to say again thanks for this amazing fun. I hope it will find more happy users :))

Maybe that is not so important but I have notice that when go underwater the oxygen hud shows up on the armor hud (as I remember). Except that all status bars should be shown in different part on screen, both are white so it is hard to use them then.

Thankyou for so much feedback. I will see about fixing that hud problem.

This is honestly looks like one of the most polished subgames I've seen, especially in terms of the hud and things like that. There's just one thing this subgame needs. It needs legend of zelda sounds. Take a look at the ambiance mod. You may be able to replace some of the music/sounds with legend of zelda music and sounds. It would really make this subgame 10x better. If you decide to implement this I could get you the sound files if you don't already have them. (Also if there already is music in this I apologize. I haven't played much as I'm waiting to play with a friend later today.)

WinkingBaby wrote:There's just one thing this subgame needs. It needs legend of zelda sounds. (...) I could get you the sound files if you don't already have them.

But is that music are able to be spread with the game with the free licence like GNU/CC BY-SA 3.0?

Music can be aslo implemented as some kind of event, like the sound of ocarina or LV Player in technic mod. I mean user during the gameplay can do some crafting or tool use to get a single song to be played. Or feed some mob with some kind of food, like magic weed, to make those mob sing some funny or creepy lyrics lol. It could bring some more fun I think. But that is just an idea, nothing more.

D00Med, I know of a website where you can get ideas and maybe even some assistance if you can actually persuade anybody that Minetest is worth their time and effort (I never could:)

Thankyou, that looks like it will be very useful.
I'm currently moving all the game content and changes to a new copy of Minetest Game instead of Minetest NeXt, it should be a lot neater afterwards, and more compatible with mods.

toby109tt and I have been working on a big update to this subgame.
Before the update is complete, it would be good to have some feedback on the changes.
The changes are being uploaded here: https://github.com/D00Med/LegendofMinetest/tree/update
Changes to the subgame include:
>3d models for the boomerangs, and a better method for their return
>new mobs, and new mob models. The new models use *almost* nothing but cubes.
>In singleplayer, the first time a player joins, a village will spawn.
>new nodes and tools.
