i believe it's enough to drop it to /$HOME/UserName/.minetest.
the game will add, but bg texture won't change. to change bg image, you have to drop textures folder in /usr/share/minetest uner root. i know to ways to do it, if you're interested/troubled

or get root and drop the whole thing into the /usr/share/minetest?

I'm using ubuntu 12.04 and all i had to do was create a folder named games on main minetest directory and drop it there.
Now when i want to create a new world the option for creating with Dwarves mod pack will appear.

Mine looks like this:
Your phone or window isn't wide enough to display the code box. If it's a phone, try rotating it to landscape mode.
Code: Select all
~/.minetest/games/dwarves$

Any idea why I get this error: servorerror:luaError: error running function 'on_step': attempt to index a number value ?

I'm using latest git from stan for windows. using windows 7. All I do is install dwarves .9.3 and load a game. It takes forever to load media, then throws this error.

ok, figured I oughta just register. I play this all the time now. :-)

I'd like to use dwarves, but it's giving me problems. I install using the latest minetest-04.3-9696ed3-win32. Game runs fine vanilla. I try to run a dwarves world and it threw a server error. Kept trying. And suddenly it worked, for a little bit, then crashed. Then I tried it and mod builtin_items throws an error so I delete that one. Then it goes back to ServerError: LuaError: error running function 'on_step': attempt to index a number value.

I have Microsoft's c++ installed. opengl.

Any ideas?

It did help. Somehow thought I had grabbed latest. I appreciate the link! Mods are still buggy for me. I had to delete half of them. My installation still gets buggy after awhile of game play. Mese is messed up, I get a lot of unknown items and can't make tools out of silver, bronze. Also mobs don't do anything to me - which I don't really mind - but just a symptom of some issues. None of it keeps me from playing. I start a new world if it starts going really wonky. I'd like to be able to keep one eventually. :-)

what mods did you delete? because you deleted some, you get unkown items from mese. yeah, i know about about the problem with golden, silver, bronze tools, but i have nor the idea why it happens, neither how to fix it. just stick to dwarves ores, ok? mobs doing no damage - it's incompatability issue with armor mod.

i appreciate that a lot :)

Ok, I started from scratch leaving all mods in. I made some changes to my .conf file that helped. So I get it running. But torch plus doesn't work in that the recipe for a lighter isn't working, so can't make torches. bummer. so that's my first delete. hope it doesn't cause problems.

I'll let you know.

Also, none of the recipes for armor work, so haven't been able to craft any.

probably because there is no armor mod. i'm quite sure i deleted it in 0.9.3. the recipe for torch lighter is flint+cobble. flint is got from cooking gravel.

Ah, that explains the lighter.

Armor does exist in 0.9.3, but as you mentioned, buggy.
But actually, things are running smoother now.
Gotta say this is my favorite MT game.
Thanks!

I've seen that one too sometimes. On servers, then reconnecting gave no problems and in singleplayer, same result as you.

You could post an the ERROR messages from your debug.txt. Probably it's a mod causing this.

allllright! next update here! bees and hives and honey and apple reducing! well, that's kind of pile of rubbish, isn't it?
so.
-added hives, which generate randomly with a rate of 2 in 25^3 space. they drop 4 honeycombs and combining with wood you get an artificial hive. when you place it, bees start coming out, so be careful, they bite. also once in a while (5 min i think) it generates honey which you can brew. now that's enough beesness (lol)
-reduced apple drop rate. you got a LOT of them in the past. a LOT. now not.
-added mods: bridges
darkage
specialties
-deleted:
armor
biggerchests
gunmod
towntest

The mobs mod causes this error. If you want to play this gamemode delete it.

Oh.. So is this going to be fixed? Should I download latest version of mobs or it's some kind "wontfix" problem?

Thanks.

EDIT:

Also, everytime I load game few error messages appear:
Your phone or window isn't wide enough to display the code box. If it's a phone, try rotating it to landscape mode.
Code: Select all
17:01:10: ERROR[main]: generate_image(): Could not load image "default_chest_lock.png" while building texture
17:01:10: ERROR[main]: generate_image(): Creating a dummy image for "default_chest_lock.png"
17:01:10: ERROR[main]: TextureSource::buildMainAtlas(): Atlas is full, not adding more textures.
Unsupported texture format
17:01:14: ERROR[main]: generate_image(): Could not load image "dwarves_water_boiled.png" while building texture
17:01:14: ERROR[main]: generate_image(): Creating a dummy image for "dwarves_water_boiled.png"
17:01:15: ERROR[main]: generate_image(): Could not load image "fatrming_strawberry.png" while building texture
17:01:15: ERROR[main]: generate_image(): Creating a dummy image for "fatrming_strawberry.png"

Should I ignore it or it's something.. more seriosly wrong? :)

you may ignore, someone made a typo, i can't find where. and i see know that I myself forgot to put a texture. nvmd that, everything's fine, you can play like that. in 0.9.5 i'll try to get both fixed, but i'm not sure i'll be able to.

do you know how to compile on linux? i mean, compile minetest apart from other software, because it compiles a bit other way than most of the software. it can be found in some readme, i think. if you get a hang of it, i would be glad to find a repo of mt which works with whole of the dwarves.

And about on_step - looks like it works OK from daily PPA - no more crashes. I guess I just installed wrong package so... Silly me...

Also, Silver Sword is "unkown" item for some reason. Haven't noticed any errors concerning it in console though.

I have some new problems...

Just loaded world and "Back" button is not working, cannot go to "Bags" or other menus.. (my inventory is full, wanted to re-arrange...)

Also, /pulverize stopped working. Tried drag-and-drop items to change positions so I could drop unnecessary stuff but items keep getting back in their last place.

Is this minetest or Dwarves/mods related bugs?

I see no specific error messages in console, apart texture problems mentioned earlier.

well.. it's kind of both. i talked about it in my latest letsplay. the game isn't optimized to work with this a lot of mods, to be short. even more so, if you have slow pc. i made 0.9.4 a bit more stable by getting rid of towntest. it somehow was occupying game very well. i'll see what i can do about it generally, but i can't promise anything. the source code itself has to be optimized.

fix or a workaround is to restart the game.

Sadly, restarting does not help. Even more, quiting game fails - it looks like it's in endless loop (high CPU usage and no results..)

I got dual core @ 2.00 GHZ with 4GB ram.

Guess I'll have to wait for new, more stable releases then :/

Good game this Dwarves is though, I like idea of collecting features/mods into single place. Good work!
