Look at the changelog. It will be released when it's done, there is no schedule. Also, just use the latest from github if you want 0.4.8 features, it's not like you can't have them yet.

It's coming out when it's ready to.

In the meantime, you can benefit from the latest updates by using a custom build. I use BlockMen's Win32 build. For truly bleeding edge, grab sfan's build, or grab a build of proller's Next (from the engine development forum).

We don't know when it'll be stable enough to release. We're also a long way from 0.5 (no mob API), and a lot on the checklist still needs to be done.

I know but i had a dev tell me that it should come out in December. Not that it will but that December would be a good estimate.

Version numbers do not matter.

Just use the latest build.

Like we all have said, it's a rolling release schedule. Updates come when they come, and version numbers don't matter.

Why don't we just say that minetest is using a rolling release model and the version numbers just serve as indicator for server compatibility. I mean officially, on the main site and so on.
The problem with the version numbers is that new players use the "stable" 0.4.7 release because they think it is more stable than the git.

Because the unstable version is allowed to have problems which would be immediately prioritized to be fixed in a stable version. For example, currently there is this, which seems to be the main thing blocking 0.4.8 release: https://github.com/minetest/minetest/issues/910

Sssooooooo... There are gonna be mobs in 0.5!?!?!?

I cant wait! I have been waiting for SO long to get official mobs in the game! I really hate using simple mobs, they are so stupid! No offense PilzAdam, the mobs are great but they are so easy to defend against.

It would be awsome if Minetest had the equivilent to Minecrafts mobs. In the newest releases they have gotten SO smart! They even break down doors and such! Not praising Minecraft, just really like their mobs...

Half Life 3 confirmed.

Although I don't have a link to back me up, Celeron did say he wanted a proper mobs API for 0.5. Not mobs per-se, but the framework to allow for intelligent mobs. Or something like that.

No guarantees for mobs in 0.5, but it might happen at the rate we are progressing.
