Nice looking 8x, a few personal comments:
  • The structures nodes (grass/wood) look better to me than the unstructured ones (dirt/stone), it would be nice if these textures could have a little more structure to them
  • Cobblestone looks like it has a gash through it - especially since the edges tile well
  • Cactus looks a bit flat - maybe shadows under the needles would help?
  • Not a fan of the windows - I think I'd personally try to make a 16x border, which when tiled made an 8x border offset by 1 16x pixel (if you get what I mean)
  • I think the bookshelf would look better if the bottom row was 3 high with variable height books, rather than the two thick base
  • A padlock rather than a key-hole may look better on the locked chest
  • I would also 'cheat' and make a 16x texture on the jungle grass, the pixels look over-sized due to the plant model
  • Would personally prefer smaller, cherry-like apples (personal preference)
  • I'm not a fan of some of the colours, desert stone looks a bit like mud, and I like red bricks over brown
  • Black background to leaves in opaque mode

Very good so far though, looking forward to future updates.

Is this better?

I haven't made all the suggested changes, just a few.

I like the new stone texture - it looks like slate in-game due to the colour, but also works well when
re-coloured to a lighter stone colour.
I also like the changes to the bookcase and cactus.

It would be nice if there could be a little more contrast in the cobble, but it does look better, and I con tell that
it would be difficult to make it look nice with more contrast.

Not sure if my suggestion about using 16x textures was good or not. The glass does look better in the normal rendering mode, but I did notice the border looks too thin right in the connected glass mode.
I like wooden-bordered glass more than minimal textured glass, so I quickly made two textures one 16x, one 8x, and I'm conflicted about which one is better.

I think that the jungle grass could do with some more detail though.

Also, I would like to suggest adding a second shade of purple to the violet. It looks a little flat when compared to
the other flowers, as they all have some variation.

Ok, I'll see what I can do about that. Personally I like the old stone texture, the new texture doesn't look good with ores. I'm working on mod support at the moment.
I did try a 4x4, but it's hard enough to get 8x8 to look ok :D

Cool, it's really hard though. I've made a partial 4x texture pack. It makes the blocks seem smaller somehow

Has anyone else noticed how fancy leaves make the game much slower in 0.4.14?
Even with 4x4 leaves(chequered pattern) the game is incredible slow when looking at leaves.
The same thing happens with transparent ice. I'll be making totally opaque simple leaves for this texture pack next.

Fancy leaves has always caused a performance hit - the needs to create a lot of polygons to render fancy leaves.
Fancy leave are also transparent, meaning the the terrain behind them also needs to be rendered.

I found the problem. For some reason minetest was using opengl regardless of my settings.

... and again, because openGL rocks .... DOH~ :P

The 8px looks great so far.
I am an artist / designer (of sorts) and I know pixle art is not as easy as most people think.
It is much more difficult to produce, truly good looking results.
I shtink at px art
