I can't wait for the 0.4.11 Android build.

The following, in my opinion, should be helpful:

Hiding chat in every formspec menu.
Double-tapping forward key toggles fast, double-tapping jump key toggles fly, and double-tapping down/sneak key toggles noclip.

Just my thoughts...

I really wish Minetest would be available on F-Droid. It's an alternative to the Android market for open source software.
A list of my mods can be found here.

Your patched version worka pretty well, thank you, it is great to see the full pc ui on the phone (although no mapgen mods work, experimental mapgen gives a gray screen and ethereal generates the world but the game crashes about 2 mins in the game and I don't think it's cause of lack of ram cause I have a note 4 so 3gb ram, it might also be cause I have the armv8 exynos cpu version of it if it does not happen to you) but I can't find a way to place only one block in the crafting interface without using a gamepad/mouse or using a root app to emulate the mouse pointer and right click button behaviours so I can't craft a pickaxe/sword/armor/whatever else.

EDIT: Nvm, I installed your version over the officiall 0.4.10 (signature verification is disabled on all my android devices) and after I wiped clean the Minetest folder, uninstalled and reinstalled minetest the double tap gesture started working, great job.

I'm afraid complex mapgen mods might not be ideal for smartphones. They even do cause lag on very potent desktop CPUs. It might be better to either join a server or let a desktop generate most of the world before copying it to the phone.

I am not very technical or very learned in programming and was wondering what you guys do different when creating your android apps?

I am using an old Smasung media player with an OS that cant be updated,
yet every single game I have ever tried from the google play store works great on my device
..except minetest.

I have tried nearly every single build since I joined the forums and its always the same result..just a sky blue screen that never changes. I want to use the official version just cuz I think its more respectful to all the folks who have spent there precious time developing the game.

Why do all the unofficial versions work on my device and yours does not?

Even Wandstep is broken for me...just a plain white screen...nothing changes.

Have you read this? viewtopic.php?p=157100#p157100
Or have you tried to change the GUI scale in minetest.conf to as lowest as possible?

I currently use the Moto E.

MineTest doesn't have the best framerate, but it's decently playable and I can run a few light-weight mods on it as well.

EDIT: Although I forgot to mention that the UI Scale needs to be set to 0.625 in order to see chests properly

Hello there. Here is my report on Android version of Minetest.
Device info:
Your phone or window isn't wide enough to display the code box. If it's a phone, try rotating it to landscape mode.
Code: Select all
Model: Highscreen Alpha R
Screen, ppi: 5" IPS, 440
Resolution: 1920 x 1080
OS: Android 4.2.1
CPU: MTK MT6589T 1.5 GHz, 4 cores
GPU: Power VR SGX544 MP 286(?) MHz, 1 core
RAM: 1 GB

Minetest version: ARM 0.4.10
Here we go.
There are scaling problems with "Config MODs" and "Sound Volume" menus. Shaders are not working properly, any shader gives same red tint effect. Game does not saves settings when not closed properly from inside the application. Camera rotation is somewhat "jagged" and not smooth. Inventory cube textures are OK, no problems found. There is a typo in Settings, missing space on "Touch threshold" line. Background image flickers during item visuals preloading. Overall performance is good, even world generation is smooth, no lags or framerate drops, with all fancy stuff enabled (except shaders). Lag between pressing on block and start of block breaking process is too long, IMO. Auto-jumping feature and touch-oriented UI would be great additions.

Thank you for working on this game, I like it very much. This port is fully featured, unlike Minecraft PE, it's great! I also wondering is Android port made using SDK (Java VM application) or NDK (Native C application)?

Ha-ha! You have use make on Debian/Ubuntu to compile native part (libs folder)

Problem solved, I just used "make"

[Android] Latest git (5-9-15)

by Wayward_One » Sat May 09, 2015 16:31

Hello all! :) Here is the latest Android build: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4ncVD ... sp=sharing

Enjoy! :)

Edit: Also, in case anyone's wondering, this and future Android builds of mine are not from my normal Minetest folder, but are built from a separate Minetest folder dedicated only to building for Android.

These updates ARE sent to the Play Store, right? So can get updates from there?

Nope. I believe only nrz can update the Minetest apk on the Play store, and I haven't seen him around lately. Also, it shows that the last time that apk was updated was March 16th.

Looks like there is a newer, updated ARM build.
http://forum.minetest.net/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=11483
Right now I dont see any benefit of this version over that one or vice versa. Except for the update to 4.12 or course. Thoughts? Whats the difference between the two?

Ah, ok. They (the two in the new post) are the same, 0.4.12.12, so there should be no difference between the two.

Edit: My apologies, for some reason I thought you meant differences between the Google Play and the F-Droid versions.

I believe the new topic was made specifically to announce the addition of the official Minetest app to those stores.
