FOSS gamedev and creative worlds

Hello people,
I've tried several times to install mods and I keep getting this kind of error:

ModError: Error loading mod "BlahBlahBlah": mod_name does not follow naming conventions: Only characters [a-z 0-9] are allowed.

I've tried taking the '-master' off of the names like these posts said
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=11414&hilit=ERROR%3A+contains+disallowed+charakters
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=16605

but with no luck (and it seems the noob from the other post didnt have any luck either).
I have no clue what to do, and I'm not even real sure what any of it means. The folder names only have a-z and 0-9. Is it talking about the characters in the actual files?? I'm clueless.

How are the rest of you able to play this game? I wanna play too.

Check the topic from where you got the mod. The title should be something like "[Mod] An Awesome Mod! [awesome_mod]". The last item in brackets ("awesome_mod") is how you should name the folder.

When reporting mod-related errors, first try posting in the mod's topic. A Google search for "minetest mod whatever" (without quotes) should find a suitable topic.

If you can't find a topic, posting from where you got the mod is helpful.

also on a lot of mods remove the -master from the end of the names
and in most of the time that seems to work
