Mod replacements needed for sneak bug features

by paramat » Sun Mar 19, 2017 18:34

You may have seen that we have changed sneak behaviour, many bugs were fixed by doing this, but fixing these bugs caused popular side-effects such as the sneak elevator and the 2 node high sneak jump to disappear, it was impossible to keep those and fix the very undesirable bugs. We're sorry for the disruption and disappointment caused by this.

As some small compensation we have made climb speed much faster and have made ladder recipes much more generous, i also intend to make cart rail recipes much more generous.

The intention is to move these popular sneak behaviours from being engine bugs inseperable from very undesirable engine bugs, to being intentional features added by mods and used by certain subgames and servers.
This is where we need the help of modders, it would be appreciated if those interested can try to develop mods that partially recreate the popular sneak bugs or provide the functionality in similar or new forms.
Such mods will be in very high demand and will be very much appreciated by many players.

Something involving the need to make an elixir to enable (temporary) extra high jumping power might be fun.
Flick?... Flick who?

:P

TenPlus1 has made some special boots in the armor mod that enhance walking speed, jumping height or gravity.
so, equipment like ninja boots or hydraulic trousers is also an option :3

Climbing speed should be settable on a per-block basis (with fallback to a configurable default) and shoud not be a global hardcoded value.

This would enable mod makers to create all kinds of climbable nodes. "Rocket start" nodes with a climb speed that is default*50. Or steel ladders that can be climbed 3 times faster than wood ladders, etc.

This thread is a reiteration of the following thread:

I'm creating MineClone 2, a Minecraft clone for Minetest.
I made the Help modpack, adding in-game help to Minetest.

A good mod semi-replacement for the sneak ladder https://forum.minetest.net/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=17069

The other behaviour most wanted is an on-demand 2-node jump, this could be done using per-player physics override, perhaps in a similar way to a sprint mod.

I think a mod-defined 2-node jump would only work as a client mod, since the latency between the client and the server would be too large.
Every time a mod API is left undocumented, a koala dies.

Hi,

there should be a prod mod, so that you can push players down into lava, holes and canyons

Can you explain further what you'd like?
